Southern California Weather Force issued a Santa Ana Wind Watch via the micro-climate alert system on Saturday morning, effective for Tuesday into Wednesday as a dry front moves into the area. Read on for details …
A cold front is expected to move through Wyoming and Colorado on Tuesday, where I have issued over my national page the Winter Storm Watch (Click here to read that). The cold-air in the Great Basin as a result will create a thermal gradient with the hotter air here in Southern California. This will bring winds through the Las Vegas and Southern California Desert areas early Tuesday and eventually jet out into below the passes and canyon south and west of the mountains.
This is expected later Tuesday evening/night and going into Wednesday where the risk elevates the most. Wind models will be developed, but for now remember that a Santa Ana Wind Watch for Tuesday and Wednesday means that conditions are favorable for dry gusty winds below passes and canyons and into the mountain/desert zones that can and probably will trigger high fire danger level and thus it is officially my Fire Weather Watch as well.
Wind models will be developed before the event …
In other words, even areas that don’t get the wind will have temperatures in the triple digits yet again under compressional warming. A hot week yet again coming up and the rest of the month looks above average in temperatures and below average in precipitation.
