Thunderstorm Watch Issued For First Frontal Zone With Pacific Storm Biden For Overnight Tonight Across Santa Barbara eastward through LA, OC, and the Western Inland Empire

1.2K+Shares

Southern California Weather Force has issued a Thunderstorm Watch effective now for the overnight with the first frontal zone across portions of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange County, as far east as the Western Inland Empire so read on for details …

Short term atmospheric profile suggests the storm is starting to become negatively-tilted, which means that colder air aloft is spilling in at a rapid rate over the first frontal zone, due across the region overnight tonight.  This thunderstorm watch already has lightning southwest of the Channel Islands.  As this frontal zone moves eastward, the system will work with some southerly flow and provide the needed lift for lightning strikes to be likely in the watch zone.  Those of you awake may be treated to lightning, as well as hail included.

More thunderstorms are likely in this area over the day on Monday, with extensions further south towards San Diego County as well.  Thunderstorm Watches will be re-issued accordingly, but this will handle the short term overnight front.
