Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Mountains of San Diego, Riverside, Big Bear, Lucerne, and Barstow

Southern California Weather Force has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch effective noon through 7pm, today, July 18, 2024.

Zones Affected:  San Diego, Riverside Mountains – Big Bear – High Desert of Lucerne to Barstow – Coachella Valley.

Discussion:  A healthy southerly flow will pump more monsoon moisture into the watch zone today.  Storms are expected to erupt along the spine of the San Diego, Riverside Mountains, which can push them into parts of the Coachella Valley as well.  Storms forming over Big Bear will quickly rush outflow off the mountain and bring storms to Lucerne Valley.  However, the strongest outflow winds with storms will be the Barstow forecast zone.  I am expecting wind gusts over 60-70 mph there with the storms.

The cells will vacate after sunset.
