Thunderstorm Outlook For Southern California Mountain and Desert Zones for July 22, 2024

0Shares

Southern California Weather Force has issued two weather alerts for the region.  The Severe Thunderstorm Watch and the Thunderstorm Watch.

Zones Affected:  San Diego, Riverside Mountains – Big Bear – High Desert Metro – Las Vegas – Needles forecast zone – Inland Empire Redlands and Yucaipa.

Discussion:  A ridge of high pressure has moved just to the west of Las Vegas.  This puts the Las Vegas forecast zone under a strong northerly flow.  Storms forming off the higher terrain will push into the main metro zones later on.

At the same time, expecting thunderstorm development over Big Bear, which will shove outflow boundaries into the High Desert for thunderstorm development there.  The interesting thing about today is the easterly flow in the mid-levels.  Storms forming in the San Bernardino Mountains can bring some activity into Yucaipa and Redlands.  Isolated storms are likely in the Riverside and San Diego Mountains.

The hardest hit zone today will be the Las Vegas zone.

Because of the upper dynamic in the area, some of these storms and outflow will last into half of the night.

The cells will vacate sometime after midnight.
