Thunderstorm Outlook For Southern California Mountain and Desert Zones for July 23, 2024

0Shares

Southern California Weather Force has issued a Thunderstorm Watch for July 23, 2024.

Zones Affected:  San Diego, Riverside Mountains – Big Bear – High Desert, not including Hesperia – Needles forecast zone – Inland Empire East near Hemet and possibly Banning Pass – Imperial Valley – Central and Eastern Riverside County Desert – Joshua Tree National Park

Discussion:  A ridge of high pressure remains over Western Nevada.  The flow yesterday was east to west, today it will be east-southeast to west-northwest.  This means that storms forming first over Big Bear Lake will shove outflow through the Lucerne Valley zones, and into parts of the Apple Valley forecast area.  Outflow from this will further go west through parts of the Western Antelope Valley areas before curving north toward the Kern Desert zones.

Storms forming in the Riverside and San Diego County Mountains are going to form in a stronger mid-level flow, which could take them into the foothills and possibly even off the mountains a bit, especially the areas like Hemet, where it is possible leakage from Anza and Aguanga will come from.

Outflow from Arizona’s severe thunderstorm watch will try to cross the Colorado River Valley and into Imperial Valley as well.
